Waking the Dragon with Sean Tebor

Yoga holds a profound power to awaken our truest selves. There is a Dragon, a magical force coiled deep in our bellies that yearns to be discovered and released. The rising of the Dragon brings with it our deepest sense of instinct, intuition, and inner knowing.

The sacred structural and energetic geometry of the human being is extraordinary. Alignment in yoga is so much more than structure. It is a balancing of primary and subtle relationships that, when harmonized, roots us in the core and opens the gateway for the great rising up of the breath of life. The dragon begins to dance. We are connected, we are alive, and we are liberated.

In this special weekend workshop, we will explore the dance of the Dragon as the union of left and right, and of the subtle relationships in the energetic and structural body. Utilizing reflective sequencing, a method of balancing the body through the use of asymmetrical posture sequencing, we will find the release of our inner strength as our primordial dance meets the modern practice of yoga.

Session Descriptions

Friday, March 16th 6:30-9:00pm: Spine of the Dragon

  1. In this fluid Dragon sequence we will clear the back of the body in a wonderful release and grounding of the soul. Open the legs, free the back of the spine, and empty the mind to allow the breath to unfold and expand for the rest of the weekend.

Saturday, March 17th 10:00am-1:00pm: Dragon's Wingspan

  1. The Dragon begins to wind its way between the sides of the body, spreading the back and finding the roots of our wings. We unleash the breath and discover the playfulness of not being bound by the linear front-back relationship, by future or past. We remember the freedom of movement inspired by the breath itself.

Saturday, March 17th 3:00-6:00pm: Dragon Belly

  1. Finding the magic in the belly of the Dragon requires open hips. We move through a sequence designed to bring fluidity and balance to the hips, legs, and low spine, supporting the rising of core energy up from the ground into the heavens.

Sunday, March 18th 10:00am-1:00pm: Dragon's Heart

  1. As the Dragon emerges from our depths, we find its movement as a balance of intertwining spirals. Male and female are reunited as the spine turns and dances upon itself in this sequence of twists and revolution, purifying the lungs, heart, and primary organs. The Dragon burns off impurity, grief, and density, preparing us to take flight.
